HGH launches 2025-2029 Strategic Plan

HGH launches 2025-2029 Strategic Plan

On Wednesday, March 19, the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) unveiled its Strategic Plan for 2025-2029, “Collaborate and Innovate for Better Health.” The plan outlines a reimagined healthcare system for residents beyond larger urban centres, specifically in Eastern Ontario.

“It started with our Board of Directors back in the fall of 2023, when we re-examined, essentially, what we did right with our old Strategic Plan and where we needed to go. Now, we must reflect; our resources are limited in healthcare, and we must find better ways how to achieve our goals. We do that by redefining and reimagining what we do here at this hospital,” stated CEO of HGH Frédéric Beauchemin.

As part of the wider plan, HGH will continue offering bilingual services and acting as a strategic reference point for accessible and innovative healthcare in rural and remote communities. This includes the continued modernization of equipment, developing additional resources, and ensuring an inclusive and welcoming healthcare environment for patients and visitors.

Member of Parliament for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell Francis Drouin said, “It’s true that over the last 10 years, I’ve certainly seen the Hawkesbury Hospital rename itself to serve the population of Prescott-Russell. We certainly see that leadership, and to me, that is a true testament to a strong community hospital.”

“Look around. What is more Canadian than this hospital? 35 per cent or more employees live in Québec while 60 to 65 per cent live in Ontario. If I look at our emergency room visits, it’s almost a 50/50 split between the provinces. Equal access to healthcare for Canadians in our region is very important to us and to the Board. Our hospital and services aren’t defined by provincial lines or division by the Ottawa River, right?” Beauchemin said.

Chair of the Board of Directors of HGH Guy Yelle explained, “We think we have the right people with the right vision and expertise to drive our organization forward and push the boundaries of healthcare. We will work hand-in-hand with our teams and community partners to build an accessible, efficient, and compassionate healthcare network.”

The 2025-2029 Strategic Plan emphasizes personalized, inclusive, and patient-centred care. It prioritizes tailoring healthcare to individual needs, exploring new technologies, and enhancing service delivery.

Also included in the plan is fostering responsible financial practices focused on sustainable future growth, ensuring a thriving workplace for employees through collaboration and investments in employee training, as well as strengthening community and organization partnerships with the HGH.

Chief of Staff for HGH, Dr. Paul E. Beaulé thanked his team and wider staff at the hospital for their continued efforts in maintaining an efficient healthcare system in the region.

“Every physician, nurse, and healthcare professional has a pivotal role to play in making the HGH vision a reality, and this is happening today,” he concluded.
