Civic leaders will be getting an update on Vernon’s strategic plan Monday.
At their regular council meeting, staff will present a report on the plan.
“Strategic Planning is an on-going process that guides the organization’s direction using knowledge and resources to document the organization’s intended direction,” reads the report.
“It’s not a one-off event and requires continuous effort and reassessment. As projects and initiatives often evolve and pivot away from their original intent, the process of careful consideration is what is most important. For the City of Vernon, this process culminates as the Council Strategic Plan.
“The City of Vernon’s primary objective is to employ strategic planning as an instrument to thoughtfully prioritize initiatives, allocate resources, and ensure Council and Staff are aligned with the organization’s vision and objectives, all in pursuit of improving the community and its overall quality of life.”
The plan, approved on May 23, 2023, 2023-2026 Council Strategic Plan, lists priority projects and initiatives across various service areas. A more detailed ActionPlan was also approved on June 26, 2023.
The report says as the mid-point of the current council’s tenure approaches, it provides the opportunity for a comprehensive review of key projects and initiatives.
“The mid-term report outlines how the city has made progress on tackling the complex and evolving impacts of climate change and fuel modification/treatment efforts. It demonstrates a commitment to parks and recreation with construction projects such as the Silver Star Rd Multi-use Path Phase 2, Lakeview Wading “Peanut Pool” revitalization, and ground-breaking on the new Active Living Centre. The completion of important planning documents such as the O’Keefe Historical Ranch Asset Management Plan, the Age & Dementia Friendly Community Plan and the Fire Service Strategic Plan put the city in strong position to make future strategic investments.”
The city has also recently taken steps to launch the process for developing a new Official Community Plan and Transportation Plan which will guide land use decisions and transportation investment over the next decade.
Progress has also been made on advancing the Housing Action Plan and streamlining and enhancing service to the development industry.
