Grey Sauble CA adopts new ten-year strategic plan

The plan includes this vision: a vibrant watershed, supported by GSCA, where ecosystems thrive, and communities are healthy, safe and prosperous

The Grey Sauble Conservation Authority has a new strategic plan.

At their meeting on Aug. 27, the authority’s board of directors approved the new strategic plan for the next 10 years.

CAO Tim Lanthier presented a report about the plan and thanked the board and staff for all their work and help in developing the document.

The plan includes the following vision and mission:

Vision: a vibrant watershed, supported by Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, where ecosystems thrive, and communities are healthy, safe and prosperous.

Mission: to champion a healthy and safe watershed through innovative conservation efforts, sound planning and inspiring education initiatives, now and in the future.

Lanthier explained that the plan includes five key strategic goals. They are:

1. Achieve organizational excellence

2. Effectively monitor and manage the risk of natural hazards

3. Enhance Grey Sauble Conservation Authority land management

4. Improve watershed health

5. Strengthen environmental education and communication

“Grey Sauble Conservation Authority will implement a continuous improvement cycle to monitor progress, assess effectiveness, and respond to emerging challenges and opportunities,” Lanthier wrote in his report to the board about the strategic plan.

The authority used several processes in developing the plan including:

  • A review of past strategic planning outcomes.
  • Multiple staff surveys and internal consultations.
  • Public engagement sessions and targeted stakeholder outreach.
  • Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats analysis and program evaluations.
  • Development and prioritization of strategic goals and actions.

“This inclusive and iterative process has resulted in a robust and actionable plan that aligns with GSCA’s mandate and values,” Lanthier said in his report.

The full plan and report are available in the agenda package for the meeting.

Members of the board were pleased with the results of the strategic planning process.

“Great work on this Tim and team,” said Arran-Elderslie member Jennifer Shaw.

Grey Highlands member and deputy authority chair Nadia Dubyk congratulated authority staff for their work on the document.

“It’s excellent. It’s so well organized. It helps us understand some of the prioritization,” she said.
