Bed Bath & Beyond making in-store comeback, will soon sell products at this rival store

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Beyond Inc., an e-commerce brand that owns a suite of online shopping brands, including Overstock, Bed Bath & Beyond, Baby & Beyond and Zulily, has announced a strategic partnership with The Container Store, which will now carry products from the Bed Bath & Beyond label.

“The companies intend for the partnership to position The Container Store to return to profitable comparable store growth over time by utilizing and benefitting from Beyond’s intellectual property, customer data, network of brands and affiliate relationships,” The Container Store noted in a press release.

As part of the terms of the collaboration, Beyond Inc. has agreed to invest $40 million in The Container Store, which has a location on the Staten Island Mall property in New Springville.

“Appropriately sized spaces that showcase the iconic Bed Bath & Beyond assortment for kitchen, bath and bedroom” will be co-branded within Container Store locations. Beyond Inc. will also offer a global loyalty program at the store and will integrate the Container Store’s Elfa and Preston product lines into its e-commerce portfolio.

“We are excited about the opportunities this partnership unfolds for us,” Satish Malhotra, CEO of The Container Store, said in a statement. “We believe its benefits will further our strategic initiatives, including deepening our relationship with customers, expanding our reach, and strengthening our capabilities, while accelerating our return to positive same store sales growth and profitability.”

Marcus Lemonis, executive chairman of Beyond Inc., added: “Partnerships like this further support the value of iconic brands leveraging each other’s assets and core competencies while improving customer conversion and retention, enhancing margins and optimizing marketing expenses, which are the principal drivers in delivering value creation and profitable growth.”

Founded in New Jersey in 1971, Bed Bath & Beyond quickly became an anchor of suburban shopping centers throughout the nation, a destination that launched millions of simple home makeovers and supplied blankets, pillows and bathroom essentials for college freshmen, according to Advance archives.

The chain, which once operated 1,500 stores across the United States, including two locations on Staten Island, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2023, resulting in the closure of all of its remaining stores.
